Nintendo Family Fun at San Diego Comic-Con; Holiday Preview

by selenash

Nintendo Family Gaming Night was a fun night out playing the hottest games for Nintendo Switch. We drove to San Diego during the world-famous Comic-Con to try out some of the latest classic games that are updated and upgraded for fans of the games. This event gave our family a first-hand experience with the Nintendo Switch system and upcoming games including Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and more. Hint: They’ll all be available for purchase in time for the holidays!

I served as photographer and videographer for my boys and at some points, I had to jump in and show them that mom still knows what’s up in the world of video games! Below are snapshots of our experience.

Super Mario Maker 2 –

Mario fans of the world, unite! Now you can play, create and share the side-scrolling Super Mario courses of your dreams in the Super Mario Maker 2 game, available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch system. Dive into the single-player Story Mode and play built-in courses to rebuild Princess Peach’s castle. Make your own courses or team up with a friend to make some together. And with a Nintendo Switch Online membership, share your courses, access a near-endless supply of courses made by others and enjoy online multiplayer. (Available now) My boys will have to wait for Santa!

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order

Now is your chance! Assemble your ultimate team of Marvel Super Heroes from a huge cast including the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and more! Team up with friends to prevent galactic devastation at the hands of the mad cosmic tyrant Thanos and his ruthless warmasters, The Black Order. MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order is available as of July 19.

Luigi’s Mansion™ 3

Everyone knows Luigi, right! He’s Mario’s brother and he is embarking on a dream vacation with Mario and friends upon receiving an invitation to a luxurious hotel. However, his dream quickly becomes a nightmare when King Boo reveals everything had been a ploy to capture Mario and friends. With the assistance of Professor E. Gadd once again, the reluctant and cowardly hero Luigi traverses up and down treacherous floors of the now-ominous hotel on a quest to save them. Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be available October 31. We think it’ll be worth the wait!

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

I was happy to see Zelda. I played this game back in the 80s and it was difficult for me, but my guys jumped right in, no problem! Here’s the scenario: Link has washed ashore on a mysterious island with strange and colorful inhabitants. To escape the island, Link must collect magical instruments across the land and awaken the Wind Fish. Explore a reimagined Koholint Island that’s been faithfully rebuilt in a brand-new art style that will entice fans and newcomers alike, and battle enemies and uncover the hidden secrets of the island. Sounds easy right, well let’s see how you do! The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be available September 20.

Pokémon™ Sword & Pokémon™ Shield

Ok, Pokémon was obviously the star of the night! A new generation of Pokémon is coming to the Nintendo Switch system and it is bigger than ever. I mean that literally as Pokemon will be available on the Nintendo Switch and available to be played on your big screen for the first time ever! Think about that. Pokemon has been around for a couple of generations only available on your handheld devices, so this is major. If you don’t understand, please sit down with your child and pick their brain, you may be surprised!

In the all-new game, you’ll be able to become a Pokémon Trainer, embark on a new journey in the new Galar region, and unravel the mystery behind the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta! Explore the Wild Area, a vast expanse of land where the player can freely control the camera. And participate in Max Raid Battles in which players will face off against gigantic and super-strong Pokémon known as Dynamax Pokémon. Both Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will both be available November 15.

I have to disclose that I understand the many concerns that parents have in regards to video games. I take these seriously as well. I monitor my children, I set time limits (and who cares about breakdowns and attitudes) they have to understand that video games are leisure activities and are to be enjoyed once priorities are completed. I believe in teaching balance, not withholding! And I, myself enjoyed video games as a child myself, so I completely get it!

I hope you’ll add a couple of games to your stocking stuffer list this holiday season and make it a Nintendo Family Game Night!

Thank you, Nintendo for having us!
