Love for Grandpa Joe Jackson at the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation Celebrity Baseball Game

by selenash

Like most you’ve heard by now that Joe Jackson passed away in July.  His consistent, persistency changed his family for generations to come.  The dedication to his passion has far surpassed Michael and Janet’s legacy.  And I say this with no disrespect.  But his influence on his own children has influenced their children and their children as well as so many other artist in the music and creative arts game.

Speaking of game, baseball in particular lead me to the Encino Little League/Dee Dee Jackson Baseball field.  A locally known secret about Encino, CA is that it’s practically owned by the Jackson Family.  I say this because Encino was the family hub to the Jackson 5 growing up here in Los Angeles.  Tito Jackson, the eldest of the Jackson 5, raised his family here.  His three sons,  Tj, Taj and Tyrll lost their mother, Dee Dee Jackson when they were only teens.  As you’d imagine it was a great deal of pain to bare.  From this the three brothers also known as 3T started The Dee Dee Jackson Foundation to help youth dealing with loss through music therapy.

The Dee Dee Jackson Foundation held it’s first annual Celebrity Softball Game in honor of their grandfather Joe Jackson.  It was a really warm and sunny morning keeping true to a typical summer in the San Fernando Valley.  It was an intimate affair for those who came out to support Jackson family members Ty, Taj and Taryll.  When Mr. Jackson’s grandson’s spoke with them on the black carpet about their grandfather,  they spoke with admiration and gratitude about what he had done for their family and music.

While covering the black carpet, I spoke to several guest to hear sincere stories about grandparents, in particular grandfathers, dealing with loss and pursuing dreams.

ABOUT THE DEE DEE JACKSON FOUNDATION:

The Dee Dee Jackson Foundation is a 501c3 organization helping youth recover from loss in life through the power of love. Delores “Dee Dee”Jackson’s mission in life was simple: to protect, love and guide as many people as possible—near and far, family, friend or stranger. To Dee Dee, giving back was one of life’s greatest vocations. She stopped at nothing to make a difference – dedicating her time and resources to raise money for schools, communities, and charities. Simply put, Dee Dee always thrived to make a positive impact in the world.

As a mother of three boys born into the Jackson family, Dee Dee developed a deep love for music. Her passion inspired her children, Taj, Taryll and TJ, and ultimately led to the formation of their music group, 3T. In addition to fostering their love for music, Dee Dee also instilled in her sons the importance of love and charity. Following their mother’s sage advise and fine example, 3T has been dedicated to building a meaningful and lasting pathway of philanthropy. Their mission is to make their mother proud by continuing her legacy of love and charity. Taj, Taryll, and TJ have launched a non-profit organization entitled The Dee Dee Jackson Foundation in hopes of doing just that.

With the power of love they hope to give back to those who have suffered great loss and make a positive impact through community & music therapy. Check out our website or Instagram for more information: www.ddjf.org and socials @deedeejacksonfoundation.
