I can’t name a single kid that does not respond with laughter or some type of silly face when Captain Underpants is mentioned. The book series is a mega hit, so you could only imagine that one day the Captain would find his way to the big screen. The MOMS, Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein hosted us at the Real D theater in Beverly Hills for an advance screening of Captain Underpants the First Epic Movie and to meet the author Dav Pilkey!! My guys were filled with excitment because they’ve read The Captain Underpants book series for years! Somewhere along the way it just became a habit for me to say have you read this one and if not to take it to the register. To our surprise when we got to the theater, the movie was in 3D. This decision, according to my boys, was so next level and we enjoyed every minute of it.
Showtime and Hulu hosted an intimate screening of I’m Dying Up Here at The Hollywood Improv. The Improv has been on Melrose avenue since it opened in LA back in 1970s. There are few places that when you walk in the door you can feel the history and relevance. It was dimly lit with mostly black interior which is reminiscent for most comedy clubs that I’ve been to in Hollywood.
I”m Dying Up Here is a new series executive produced by Jim Carrey. He’s a great storyteller in his own right, so I had the feeling the plot of the series would be interesting. This new series explores the struggles of “making it big” in the 1970’s LA comedy scene. The story was told in a way that allowed viewers to experience life through the eyes of up-and-coming comedians, from waiting to perform at Goldie’s, the hottest stand-up club in town and all that they have to do to win over, the owner Goldie who rules on Sunset Strip with an iron fist. The audience will laugh and gasp as the comedians bare their souls trying to hold on until they get that big break. This show is definitely for adults only and airs on Showtime, Sunday June 4 at a0PM ET/PT. You can stream it afterwards on Hulu.

Discovery Cube Los Angeles is one of my favorite places to explore with my sons. It provides educational opportunities, interactive activities that give children unique ways to learn through active participation and the room and freedom to move their bodies, something often underestimated but very important for learning. Saturday we were invited to take a sneak peak into the newest exhibit at Discovery Cube Los Angeles, Dinosaurs UnEarthed. It was big, it was life sized and it was FUN.
At some point we all make purchases that more than likely require the use of plastic bags. As Americans we are consuming more and more each year, which means an increased demand for plastic carriers. These bags began to pollute the city so much that Los Angeles County, amongst the first in the country, issued a ban on plastic bags. This change brought about inspiration for many local entrepreneurs. One in particular is Richard Elden, CEO of the successful brand, dbest Products. His company is the pioneer in the smart cart industry.
I caught up with him to talk about his latest addition, the Trolley Dolly.
Voodoo Doughnut made their Hollywood debut at Universal Studio’s CityWalk in Hollywood! They allowed media and press to have a sneak peak before the doors officially opened for business. As soon as I walked up I immediately felt the high energy. All that pink lured me in. I’m guessing most would think that Voodoo in any name would be something dark and uncanny but actually Portland, OR founders Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon did a great job of incorporating sugar and spice and all things nice with a hint of VooDoo into their iconic brand.
Family Time follows the lives of the newly relocated Stallworth family from the “hood” to a tight-knit suburban community of Windsor Hills. In the beginning Tony ( Omar Gooding) a struggling contractor is doing his best to support his wife Lisa (Angell Conwell) a stay-at-home mom and their two children Devin (Bentley Kyle Evans Jr.) and Ebony (Jayla Calhoun). Family Time is in it’s fifth season and in a unique league of it’s own. It’s part of Bounce TV, a network that broadcast signals of local television stations meaning that it is viewable without viewers needing to have cable! That’s only one of the great factors about it.
JC Penney is an American brand that has been apart of most families. I remember as a child being excited to get my new school clothes from their catalogue. Yes, that was back in the day! Although fashion has evolved from mail order catalogues to online ordering, it is still great to see some of my memories of fashion still around. I happily accepted the invite from JC Penney to experience their Poolside Soiree in the Hollywood Hills.
We never pass up a chance to swim, so when Knott’s Soak City Waterpark invited us out for the day we jumped at it! Plus, Soak City has undergone a 2-acre expansion and thematic renovation, which includes new shaded seating areas, spacious cabanas and a newly remodeled Longboard’s Grill.
