Ice Age Collision Course shows us another hilarious version of the days of Ice Age! The community has to pull themselves together to creatively survive the cosmic disaster on it’s way to planet Earth. They do so successfully with veteran cast members Ray Romano (Manny), Queen Latifah (Ellie), John Leguizamo (Sid) and funny and always honest Wanda Sykes as Granny.
Since it’s a family film we mom’s were on board to have a chat with the actors and get the scoop on the experience coming together for the latest installment Ice Age Collision Course. First up were mom and dad, Manny and Ellie or more popularly known as Ray Romano and Queen Latifah.
Ray refreshed our memories to let us know that this was his fifth time reading for Mannie. We we’re actually in awe of this because not many franchise movies can survive this many comebacks and keep fans engaged and laughing throughout the story. It was Queen Latifah’s fourth! There is a great chemistry between these two on and off the screen. Ramano very jokingly shared that he is a lot like Manny with his wife, saying that he can mimic Manny by being worry-some at times and that real life experience helped him prepare again for this role. He compared himself to a scene in the movie about marriage and leaving home to go out on your own for the first time.
Queen Latifah preferred the quiet scenes between Manny and Ellie. This is in part due to the action that constantly comes their way. Queen Latifah commented about how she hopes kids walk away from Ice Age Collision Course saying that they feel that it’s good that kids see themselves reflected in the stories they see, so anything that speaks to being ok with yourself, with being different, being normal, that being different is normal.
Wanda Sykes said it’s a joy to portray Granny. She says that Granny just comes in the room, tells jokes and rips on everyone and then she’s out! We all burst into laughter. It was so funny, so true, so Granny. Sykes also shared that her kids are old enough now to really get her character and follow the story line. John Leguizamo also said the same that his kids were so young during the earlier Ice Age movies but now loves it and gets that Sid is the voice of dad.
John also told us that he did a lot of different voices for Sid in the beginning. He reminisced about the day he found Sid’s voice. He said he looked up Discovery Channel footage and even took a trip to the zoo. Through this he discovered that sloths stored food in their cheek pouches and so he walked around with a sandwhich and thought how he would come up with the voice of Sid. After a while he mastered the voice and didn’t need anything in his mouth to bring the wide eyed Sid to life.
Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn catapults him into the universe where he accidentally sets off a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a quest full of comedy and adventure, traveling to exotic new lands and encountering a host of colorful new characters.
