Umami translates to savory. Based on my experience, I totally agree with savory being possibly the strongest descriptive for the Umami Burger taste experience. That’s even backed up by the team of food and lifestyle experts at GQ Magazine, which named The Umami Burger as it’s first ever and reigning “Burger of the Year.”
Upon entry to Umami’s newest location at The Grove, you are greeted with a very personal space. It’s situated on its own grounds, not connected to any other businesses or restaurants making the experience truly one of a kind. The space was designed by Kanner Architects in conjunction with the Umami Restaurant Group’s internal design team. The walls feature pickled blonde woods and backlit glass allowing for a very light, modern and eco-friendly feel. The dining tabletops are made from 100% recycled (polished) aluminum cans. The newest addition to the Umami mini chain will accommodate approximately 85 seats indoors with an additional 100 seats on a covered patio. There are also booster chairs available upon request.
The menu features Umami staples such as the Umami Burger and the Greenbird Burger. One addition to the menu that was uniquely created for diners at The Grove is The Grove Truffle Burger. Fresh beef, ground in-house daily from the best cuts, was grilled to perfection and complimented with parmesan fondue and a mouth watering truffle sauce. This burger was like eating pure succulence.
The main attraction for us (my two boys joined me) was the addition of the Umami Kid’s menu. We enjoyed the U-Mini Cheese Burger made from the House’s special grind and topped with your choice of cheese, we had white American. Next up was the U-Dog wrapped in fresh bread, baked on a daily basis, and served with Umami’s own well seasoned ketchup, mustard and relish. No kid’s menu would be complete without Tempura Chicken Tender-onis. These crispy and tasty strips were battered to perfection using specially blended seasonings and oatmeal. For our sides we munched on the best crispy green beans & honey mustard I’ve ever tasted, thin fries and Umami chips. Yes Umami has their own chips and yes they are seasoned with herbs and spices and made fresh daily. To send us on our way with an even bigger smile was the L.A. Creamery Ice Cream Milkshake for dessert. Your taste buds will do jumps of joy while slurping away on this Salted Caramel Ice Cream treat topped with cinnamon & sugar cookies. YUMMY!!
I hope you’ll make a stop by Umami Burger with the family after shopping. And since we all know how wonderfully stressful it can be shopping with our loved ones, Umami even offers adult beverages to help take the edge off. Tip: try to snag a booth to the right of the restaurant, it has an amazing view that the entire family will enjoy.
