California is home to some of the best burgers I’ve ever had. I mean the variety of burgers is incredible. My oldest son shares burger enthusiasm with me. He gets it! You may or may not know that diners are the endangered species of the restaurant industry. They are increasingly harder to find. We chose Ruby’s Diner for lunch so we could experience eating at a diner. It was complete with music and decor from the 1940s-1950s, retro employee uniforms and the menu with lots of mouthwatering options.
Upon our entry we were greeted by the manager on duty and quickly discovered that it was just after the lunch rush so the diner was nice and quiet. She lead us to a booth for seating, which was ideal for our party of 3. As we read through the menu we discovered lots of options ranging from Ruby’s beloved burgers, to a California Benedict with poached eggs on toast with grilled tomatoes and avocado slices to a classic grilled cheese sandwich. Another surprise that was that Ruby’s Diner is celebrating Burger Day in a big way. On July 26, Ruby’s Diner will off
Ruby’s Diner welcomes back Burger Day on Wednesday, July 26! All Ruby’s Diner locations* will offer the new 35th Anniversary Burger, a 1/4lb version of the classic RubyBurger, with French fries for just $2.99 with $1 of each sale benefiting The Ruby Dooby Foundation.

My son took this picture. I love the feeling of nostalgia. Pictured are Ruby’s signature shakes. They ordered a Double Vanilla which has the yummiest vanilla flavor that your tastebuds will love and the Oreo Cookie Fantasy. The Oreo Cookie Fantasy is made with vanilla ice cream and OREO cookie pieces are all blended perfectly together. My son was very quick to give a thumbs up!
It was time to EAT! I ordered the burger on the right with American cheese and the softest gluten free bun. You can choose from American, Cheddar and Swiss. It was such a relief to hear that Ruby’s offered gluten free buns as it can be challenging to find these products. The burgers were well as we ordered and had delicious flavor and tender texture. The Ruby Burger took me back to homemade burgers back in the day. Like they were cooked with love.
While the boys were slurping down their milk shakes, I enjoyed strawberry lemonade. It was a really sweet treat too that paired well with the shoe string french fries that were cooked just right. A little crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside.
If you’ll notice to the hot dog to the left. My youngest son is not a fan of burgers like the rest of the family so he ordered his lunch from the kid’s menu.
Cecilia was so awesome. She was genuinely friendly and very attentive to us during our visit. In front of her is this massive dessert that absolutely cannot be consumed by one person alone. You could smell the aroma from the freshly baked chocolate-nut brownie that they smother in vanilla ice cream and top it off with hot fudge, whipped cream, sliced almonds and a cherry! Just ask for the Double Hot Fudge Sundae and you’ll see for yourself.
We had our lunch in a half circle booth but we both wanted to experience sitting on those round red stools. Next time we will definitely eat at the counter!
Thank you Ruby’s Diner for hosting us!
