I can’t name a single kid that does not respond with laughter or some type of silly face when Captain Underpants is mentioned. The book series is a mega hit, so you could only imagine that one day the Captain would find his way to the big screen. The MOMS, Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein hosted us at the Real D theater in Beverly Hills for an advance screening of Captain Underpants the First Epic Movie and to meet the author Dav Pilkey!! My guys were filled with excitment because they’ve read The Captain Underpants book series for years! Somewhere along the way it just became a habit for me to say have you read this one and if not to take it to the register. To our surprise when we got to the theater, the movie was in 3D. This decision, according to my boys, was so next level and we enjoyed every minute of it.
The casting for the film was absolutely perfect. It was so smart to have uber funny comedians Kevin Hart and Ed Helms (Captain Underpants) in starring roles. The film is produced by long standing book publisher Scholastic Entertainment which is part of the Scholastic brand and DreamWorks Animation who’s responsible for family hit movies like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon. We screened the movie and afterwards the fun kept coming. Dav Pilkey and producer Mark Swift were on hand to answer questions from the VIPs of the evening….the kids! Below is a video that gives Dav Pilkey’s story of how Captain Underpants came to be. I asked him if it was emotional for him to see his book being turned into a movie and he said it was very emotional, he created Captain Underpants as an elementary school student and could have never imagined where the character would end up today. He signed autographs and took pictures afterwards. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you to The MOMS for hosting us.
George and Harold… I really loved their humor and hearts (pun intended) throughout the movie.
My guys are super excited to view Captain Underpants in 3D!
