Eddie the Eagle
The Fly Guy No One Saw Coming
In Theaters February 26!!
Eddie the Eagle is the fly guy no one saw coming. When Eddie set his mind on something he was unstoppable. Throughout his story you discover that there’s no choice but to see a little bit of yourself in him. The child, the imperfections, the dreamer, the risk taker, the coward, the brave heart that eventually became a champion.
Eddie the Eagle starred Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton as “Eddie.” After a chat with Hugh I learned that he had a clear memory of Eddie Edwards making his legendary jump in Australia. With Hugh being from Austrillia as well he joked about how Edwards is a real life folk hero amongst the community. So him doing the movie is really special to him and being a dad while staring in a father figure type role allowed him to share a life lesson with his own kids about winning and how that’s not what always makes you a winner. He commented that this film relates to everyone as it taps into everybody’s desire to find the thing they love, and to overcome whatever obstacles they are going through.
Taron chimed in saying that it was hard to find a reason not to do this movie. It helped him face challenges of his own in terms of acting. He faced his ultimate fear when he actually met the real Eddie Edwards. They screened the movie together and although Taron thought Eddie’s character was perfect on paper, he was a bit nervous having to sit next to the very man that he was portraying and at some points shaking and wiping dry his eyes. Afterwards both Jackman and Egerton discovered that Mr. Edwards loved the film and that he was moved by it.
Director Fletcher shared that he wanted to tell Eddie’s story in his own version and without a lot of outside influence. Eddie’s story had been floating around for 15 years and by the time it got to him it was just about fully formed leaving him with the opportunity to bring it to life in his own unique way. Fletcher also has early memories of Eddie in England and said that Edwards was more of a hero and inspiration in other parts of the world versus the conservative England.
The fly guy no one saw coming became the guy that everyone couldn’t stop looking at. His story is great and to be enjoyed by the entire family. Eddie shows thorough vulnerability, triumph and determination how he became one of Winter Olympic’s breakout heroes. Eddie the Eagle has an awesome cast that successfully brings to life the courage and the kid that’s within all of us.
